To THIS!!!!!!!!!!!

As most of you know, Camden has always been very close with his pacifier. There was never a time he didn't have one either in his hand or mouth (both sometimes.) The other morning he had a paci in his mouth and one in each hand and I had a thought. He's healthy, most of his teeth are in and there's absolutely no reason why he still needs his pacifier. We always told ourselves we'd take it away when he was 1. Well, that time came and he had his first ear infection, then a few months later this explosion of teeth came in all at once. For the first time we had no excuse to not take his pacifier away. So, the other day I decided to take it away cold turkey! I knew during the day it wouldn't be too much trouble, maybe he'd be fussy or whiny, but I was willing to take it. I was really scared of what would happen come nap time and bedtime.
Nap time rolled around and he fell asleep beautifully without it! I replaced his pacifier with a little blue dogie for comfort. I thought, "This is too good to be true!" Surely I had just gotten really lucky. The true test was night night time. I gave him his milk, read a few stories and laid him down to bed with his dogie. Not a whimper, not one fuss, silence!!!!!!!!! Can you believe this???!!! I'm SO proud of him! The car rides are a bit unbearable at times, but we sing ALOT. After going through this I learned a very good lesson in all this. I learned that it wasn't just his habit to break, but it was ours too. I think I was just afraid for him to deal without it as I was for myself not being able to have a "quick fix" to calm him down or to sleep a little longer. I've learned that sometimes it's not necessarily the child's habit but the parent's too! We're on day 3 with no paci! Go Camden!!!
Another big milestone...
He's WALKING!!!!!!!!
Yes, I mean really walking! For awhile he's taken a few steps here and there and has really been working hard to master his balance. Although he'd take 3 or 4 steps, he wasn't full fledged walking. Well, the last few days he's literally letting go and moving fast! Last night we went over to Rick and Betty's to set up a swing set we got for him temporarily until our back yard is finished. Everyone saw him cruising along! I don't know who was more surprised, Danielle or Derrick!! I thought Derrick was going to cry! He walked in their kitchen and Derrick got home a little while later and came barreling down to the backyard where we were and said, "Camden's walkin? I got a text message he's walking, is he really walking?" It was so cute. Camden was at the bottom of his little slide and walked right over to Derrick several steps away and they hugged and Camden gave him a sweet kiss! Also, along with another first, Camden said "Aunt Betty." We all couldn't believe our ears! Many witnesses were around including Aunt Betty so I know I wasn't hearing things. It sounded like this reads... Am Bay. SOOOOOO exciting!!!

How fun! Betty must be thrilled! I also can't wait to see a video of Camden walking. He's got to love his new skill!
That is awesome that he let go of his paci so easily. I too am scared of Gavin's first naps and bedtime without paci. Every single time we try it, Gavin gets sick. He is sick at the moment with a cough, running nose and slight fever. Ugh! I am bound and determined to have it gone by his second birthday though.
And you are so right that it is our habit to break too!
I also didn't think it was possible, but Camden looks even sweeter sleeping without a paci! And his hair looks so curly in the first picture of him sleeping. I hope we get to see that precious boy again soon!
AND HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY!
